Role of transition metal catalysts in single-walled carbon nanotube growth in chemical vapor deposition
Article Abstract:
The characterization of iron and cobalt catalysts for carbon nanotube growth in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is discussed. The coexistence of oxygen on the silicon or metal surface causes formation of a SiO2 base, which prevents silicidation of iron particles.

Atomic scale oxidation of silicon nanoclusters on silicon carbide surfaces
Article Abstract:
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) was used to study adsorption of molecular oxygen on 6H-SiC (0001)-3*3 surface. The interaction of atomic O beam with the 3*3 surface results in the formation of silicon oxide nanoclusters.
