EPR study of the surface basicity of calcium oxide. 3. Surface reactivity and nonstoichometry
Article Abstract:
Electron paramagnetic resonance study of the surface basicity of calcium oxide was carried out. CaO forms ozonide ions upon [O.sub2.] adsorption and N[O.sub.3][.sup.2-] anions under low pressures of NO indicating presence of defects like positive holes dispersed in the bulk and originated by the unavoidable presence of [Na.sup.} ions in the composition of the solid.

Local environment of the electron trapped at the MgO surface: Spin density of the oxygen ions from O17 hyperfine coupling constants
Article Abstract:
The nature of electron traps at the surface of polycrystalline MgO is examined in terms of interaction of the electron spin with the nuclear spin of the 17O anions of the surface. The EPR spectra are used to measure hyperfine-coupling constants of paramagnetic color centers formed on MgO crystals enriched in the 17O isotope.
