Effect of terminal groups, polyene chain length, and solvent on the first excited singlet states of carotenoids
Article Abstract:
The effect of terminal groups, polyene chain length and solvent on the first excited singlet states (S1) of cartenoids is studied with the help of steady-state and transient optical absorption spectroscopy and AM1 semiempirical molecular orbital calculations. The results suggested that in nonpolar solvents the singlet states (S1) lifetimes of carotenoids depend primarily on the polyene chain length.

Carotenoids in Liposomes: photodegration excited state lifetimes, and energy transfer
Article Abstract:
Carotenoids and porphyrin analogues are covalently linked to mimic the natural photosynthetic systems for study of the energy and electron transfer between carotenoids and other molecules. The study indicates the photodegradation, the first excited singlet state lifetimes, and the energy transfer of carotenoids in liposomes.

Effects of polyene chain length and acceptor substituents on the stability of carotenoid radical cations
Article Abstract:
Research into the stability of radical cations of three series of carotenoids substituted with terminal ester, cyano and aldehyde groups and with different numbers of backbone double bonds is presented. Radical cation stability is connected with the change in dipole moment between radical cations and the neutral species.
