Effect of underpotentially deposited adlayers on sulfur bonding schemes of organothiols self-assembled on polycrystalline gold: sp or sp(super 3) hybridization
Article Abstract:
An underpotentially deposited (upd) interlayer between the self-assembled manolayers (SAMs) and gold substrate were used to demonstrate improvement in stability of SAMs. It is shown that the upd adlayers could be applied to improve the packing density of thiophenol SAMs due to controlling the binding scheme of the sulfur headgroup from an sp(super 3) to an sp hybridization configuration.

Charge dependence of surface plasma resonance on 2 nm octanethiol-protected Au nanoparticles: Evidence of a free-electron system
Article Abstract:
The charge dependence of surface plasma resonance (SPR) on 2 nm octanethiol-protected Au nanoparticles is investigated. The result revealed a shift in the SPR peak position and stated that the variation in the corresponding line width as a function of charge can be well rationalized in a quantitative and self-consistent way by simple free-electron based Mei theory.
