Effects of temperature and of the addition of accelerating and retarding agents on the kinetics of hydration of tricalcium silicate
Article Abstract:
Studies done on the formation of calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) during the hydration of tricalcium silicate (C3S) in pure water and in water solutions containing 1% CaCl2 (accelerator) and 0.01% saccharose (retarder) by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) is reported. SAXS results reveal that colloidal C-S-H particles are formed at the beginning of the process and that they progressively grow in two dimensions, yielding a disordered lamellar structure composed of very thin plates at the end of the setting period.

Influence of cellulosic additives on tricalcium silicate hydration: nuclear magnetic resonance relaxation time analysis
Article Abstract:
The study on the effects of cellulose additives on the setting process of tricalcium silicate (C3S) paste is reported. The hydration kinetics of C3S in the presence of cellulose derivative is investigated by thermal analysis and water proton NMR relaxation time analysis.

Hydration of tricalcium and dicalcium silicate mixtures studied using quasielastic neutron scattering
Article Abstract:
The hydration reaction of tricalcium and dicalcium silicate mixtures is studied using quasielastic neutron scattering. Results suggest that favorable reaction mechanics provide optimal strength when an 80-95 % dicalcium silicate mixture is used.
