Electronic properties and phase transformations in CoMoO4 and NiMoO4: XANES and time-resolved synchrotron XRD studies
Article Abstract:
The thermal stability of a series of nickel and cobalt molybdates CoMoO4 and NiMoO4 was investigated using X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy and synchrotron-based time-resolved X-ray powder diffraction. Experimental results showed that the Co and Ni atoms are located in octahedral sites in all the compounds under study while the coordination of Mo varies from octahedral in the alpha-phases to tetrahedral in the beta-phases and hydrates. Gaseous water evolved in two different temperature ranges upon heating of the cobalt and nickel molybdates.

Article Abstract:
The structural and electronic properties of ceria (CeO2) and a mixture of ceria and zirconia (Ce(sub 1-x)ZrxO2) nanoparticles are investigated using time-resolved X-ray diffraction, the X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES), and density functional calculations. CeO2 and Ce(sub 1-x)ZrxO2 (x <= 0.5) particles in sizes between 4 and 7 nm are synthesized using a novel microemulsion method.
