Enantioselective photooxidation of a sulfide by a chiral ruthenium(II) complex immobilized on a montmorillonite clay surface: The role of weak interactions in asymmetric induction
Article Abstract:
The photooxidation of alpha-ethylbenzyl phenyl sulfide catalyzed by a polypyridyl ruthenium(II) complex as a chiral photosensitizer was studied to pursue a possibility that enantioselectivity was achieved through weak intermolecular interactions between a catalyst and a substrate. The ab initio calculations were performed on the stability of an associate composed of a catalyst and a product which suggested that chiral discrimination was achieved even through noncovalent interactions between a substrate and a chiral sensitizer.

Spectroscopic evidence for Pt-Pt interaction in a Langmuir-Blodgett film of an amphiphilic platinum(II) complex
Article Abstract:
A reversible surface pressure-molecular area curve was obtained when a chloroform solution of a dicyano(diimine)platinum(II) complex, [Pt(CN)2(5,5'-dinonyl-2,2'-bipyridine)], was spread onto pure water. It was found that surface pressure began to increase steeply from 0 at a molecular area of 0.61 nm(super 2) molecule(super -1).
