Selective oxidation of methanol by extra oxygen species on one-dimensional mo rows of a Mo(112)-(1 x 2)-O surface
Article Abstract:
The selective oxidation of methanol by extra oxygen species on one-dimensional Mo rows of a Mo(112)-(1 x 2)-O surface has been investigated. Temperature-programmed reaction under catalytic reaction conditions at constant pressures of CH3OH and O2 including low-energy electron diffraction and Auger electron spectroscopy have been carried out. Results show that methanol strongly reacts to the coverage and arrangement of oxygen modifiers and the surface structure. The methoxy species are stabilized by the oxygen modifiers in the (1 x 2)-O phase, which block the Mo atoms and form one-dimensional reaction sites on the surface.

Adsorption and electrochemical activity: An in situ electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy study of electrode reactions and potential-induced adsorption of porphyrins
Article Abstract:
Classical electrochemistry and electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (EC-STM) were combined to provide molecular level insight into electrochemical reactions and the molecular adsorption state at the electrolyte-electrode interface. This provides direct, molecular level evidence of the electrochemically 'invisible' species and electrochemical activity of absorbed species is recovered by allowing the oxidized molecule sufficient time to reduce.
