Formation of amorphous alloys by ion beam mixing and its multiscale theoretical modeling in the equilibrium immiscible Sc-W system
Article Abstract:
The experimental results from ion beam mixing and the multiscale theoretical modeling concerning the amorphous alloy formation in the Sc-W system together with a brief discussion of the structural transition mechanism is reported. A unique amorphous phase and a metastable W-based bcc solution are formed in the Sc-rich side and W-rich side, respectively by ion beam mixing in the equilibrium immiscible Sc-W system.

The oxygen vacancy in crystal phases of WO3
Article Abstract:
Studies of the oxygen vacancy in seven crystal phases are reported. The electronic structure of undefected phases critically depends on the W-O bond length splitting in each direction. The shortest bond in the y-direction is the dominant parameter in determining band gap with a shorter bond causing increased bonding which results in a larger band gap.
