Characterization of interactions in aqueous solutions of hydroxyethylcellulose and its hydrophobically modified analogue in the presence of a cyclodextrin derivative
Article Abstract:
The use of HP-[beta]-cyclodextrin monomers provides an efficient way of deactivating the hexadecyl groups attached on to the hexaethylcellulose (HEC) backbone suppressing the hydrophobic associations in the hydrophopbically modified HEC solutions. The results from viscosity, NMR-self-diffusion and DLS analysis suggest that the hydrophobic tails are deactivated by the addition of HP-[beta]-CD.

Shear- induced association and gelation of aqueous solutions of pectin
Article Abstract:
Effects of oscillatory and steady shear flows on intermolecular associations and gelation in a semidilute aqueous solution of pectin in the absence and presence of a hydrogen bond breaking agent (urea) is reported. The findings show that when the systems are exposed to high shear rates, prominent intermolecular associative junctions emerge upon return to low shear rates.
