Ion beam analyses of carbon nanotubes
Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates the utility of ion beam analysis (IBA) techniques to quantitatively determine impurities in carbon nanotubes (CNTs) over a wide range of atomic numbers. The first direct measurement of hydrogen in CNTs using an IBA technique is significant because CNTs are being actively investigated for hydrogen storage technology for energy applications.

Confinement of Mg-MgH(sub 2) systems into carbon nanotubes changes hydrogen sorption energetics
Article Abstract:
The density functional theory (DFT) method was used to study the effect of nanoconfinement on the energetics of Mg-MgH(sub 2) systems. It was observed that, as the level of loading increases, the net energy change in the hydrogen sorption/desorption processes decreases to a significant level when the loading approaches maximum.

Hydrogen storage capacity of catalytically grown carbon nanofibers
Article Abstract:
Independent hydrogen storage measurements for several types of nanofibers and for the original samples supplied by Rodriguez and Baker are presented. No significant hydrogen storage capacity was detected for all carbon nanofibers.
