Langmuir films of amphiphilic crown ethers
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine ampiphilic crown ethers at the air-water interface using X-ray reflectivity and grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction methods. An alternative synthetic route for the preparation of pure acid, and, in turn, pure crown ether liquid crystal was employed to substantially reduce the level of impurities. No evidence of first-order lying-down to standing-up transition of the alkyl tails was observed. Results demonstrate that the multilayer films are crystalline while the monolayer films have a fluid-like inplane structure.

X-ray reflectivity study of Langmuir films of amphiphilic monodendrons
Article Abstract:
The Langmuir films of a series of second generation and third generation monodendrons with hydrophobic C12H25 alkyl tails at the periphery and hydrophilic COOHCO2CH3 or crown ether groups in the core is studied using X-ray reflectivity and II-area isotherms. The result shows the consistency of the limiting molecular areas and the layer thickness with a model, in which the chains are directed perpendicularly away from the water surface.

Mixed solvent and polymer coordination in PAN and PMMA gel polymer electrolytes studied by Ab Initio calculations and Raman spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
Studies on the local and mixed solvent and polymer coordination in poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/carbonate (EC/PC) based lithium ion conducting gel polymer electrolytes by using ab initio calculations and Raman spectroscopy is reported. Experimental and calculated data demonstrates the PAN gels to be more active in the cation coordination.
