Laser-assisted synthesis of superparamagnetic Fe at the rate of Au core-shell nanoparticles
Article Abstract:
A novel method combining wet chemistry for synthesis of a Fe core, 532 nm laser irradiation of Fe nanoparticles and Au powder in liquid medium for deposition of an Au shell, and sequential magnetic extraction/acid washing for purification was developed to fabricate oxidation-resistant Fe at the rate of Au magnetic core shell nanoparticles. The surface plasmon resonance of the Fe at the rate of Au nanoparticles was red shifted and much broadened as compared with that of pure colloidal nano-gold, which was predominantly a shell-thickness effect.

Variations of the geometries and band gaps of single-walled carbon nanotubes and the effect of charge injection
Article Abstract:
The geometries of neutral and charged carbon single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) are calculated using density functional theory. Different zigzag nanotubes with n=3i, 3i+1 and 3i+2 show different dimensional changes upon the injection of small charge (0.01 e per carbon atom), and the dimensional changes approach that of graphite when the tube diameter increases.

Synthesis of metal alloy nanoparticles in solution by laser irradiation of a metal powder suspension
Article Abstract:
Laser radiation can be used to prepare alloyed metal nanoparticles from suspensions of micrometer-sized metal powder mixtures. This is demonstrated by using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and modelization.
