Nanoscale architectural control and macromolecular engineering of nonlinear optical dendimers and polymers for electro-optics
Article Abstract:
The progress made in developing highly efficient nonlinear optical dendimers and polymers for high-performance electro-optic (EO) devices is reviewed. It is reported that the concept of using nanoscale architectural control to tailor the size, shape, conformation, and functionality of nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores and macromolecules helps in optimizing macroscopic electro-optic activity, thermal stability, and optical loss.

Structure and dynamics of an extended conjugated NLO chromophore within an amphiphilic 4-helix bundle peptide by molecular dynamics simulation
Article Abstract:
The design of the 3-D structure and dynamics of a series of APO variants incorporating the extended nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophore butadiyne-bridged Zn-porphyrin dimer (PZnE-EPZn) within the amphiphilic 4-helix bundle peptide is described. The designed coiled-coil structure of the bundle controls the conformation and dynamics of the chromophore that are significant to optimize its hyperpolarizability.
