Structural characterization of self-organized TiO(sub 2) nanoclusters studied by small angle neutron scattering
Article Abstract:
Thiolactate-modified 45 Angstrom TiO(sub 2) particles self-assemble into rodlike structures. The rod formation was observed using the small-angle neutron scattering technique, with the rod diameter calculated at 43.2 plus or minus 1.6 Angstrom. The diameter of the rods was found to be the same for both self-organized and unassembled TiO(sub 2) nanoclusters and was independent of TiO(sub 2) concentration or pH. On the other hand, rod length was sensitive to both TiO(sub 2) concentration and pH.

Improving optical and charge separation properties of nanocrystalline Ti02 by surface modification with vitamin C
Article Abstract:
A method to improve the optical properties of nanocrystalline TiO2 is discussed. The method involves the use of electron-donating bidentate ligands adsorption to adjust the electronic properties of nanocrystalline particles. It is shown that just like organic charge transfer superconductors, the nanocrystallites operate with a charge transfer mechanism and demonstrate semiconducting properties.

Computational studies of catechol and water interactions with titanium oxide nanoparticles
Article Abstract:
The interactions of catechol and water with titanium oxide nanoparticles using ab initio molecular orbital theory and density function theory are investigated. The calculations indicate that catechol reacts with a Ti=O defect site on the surface, forms a bidentate structure favored over dissociative or molecular adsorption in the anatase surface.
