TOF-SIMS evidence of intercalated molecular gases and diffusion-limited reaction kinetics in an alpha particle-irradiated PTFE matrix

Article Abstract:

A study to characterize the cumulative effects of MeV alpha particles on the poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) matrix as well as the functionalized reaction products using the time-of-flight--secondary ion mass spectroscopy (TOF-SIMS) was conducted. The results revealed that the MeV alpha particles incident on PTFE beget a complex reaction process involving PTFE matrix molecules, manufacturing residue, and intercalated molecular gases.

An ultrathin self-humidifying membrane for PEM fuel cell application: Fabrication, characterization, and experimental analysis

Article Abstract:

An ultrathin poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE)-reinforced multilayer self-humidifying composite membrane is developed. The results are discussed in comparison with the plain Nafion/PTFE membrane (NP), which implies a good hydration of the Pt-SiO2/NP membranes and thus ensures an excellent proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell performance under self-humidification operation.

Photochemical instability of thiol-capped CdTe quantum dots in aqueous solution and living cells: process and mechanics

Article Abstract:

The process and mechanism of photochemical instability of thiol-capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) in aqueous solution is examined. Bond breaking and thiol detachment from the QD surfaces is observed due to an obvious decline in the corresponding Raman bands of the Cd-S bond after laser irradiation.
