The crystalline structures of carboxylic acid monolayers adsorbed on graphite
Article Abstract:
X-ray and neutron diffraction is used to probe the formation of solid crystalline monolayers of all of the linear carboxylic acids from C6 to C14 at submonolayer coverage and from C8 to C14 at multilayer coverages, and to characterize their structures. The monolayer structure consists of interdigited dimers, with a different packing from bulk planes and the acid headgroup configuration is the same as the bulk, showing that the physiorption energy is strong enough to perturb the van der Waals intermolecular bonding, but not the hydrogen bonding.

Modulation of fibrillogenesis of amyloid [beta](1-40) peptide with cationic gemini surfactant
Article Abstract:
Modulation of the fibrillogenesis of amyloid peptide A[beta](1-40) with the cationic gemini surfactant hexamethylene-1,6-bis(dodecyldimethylammonium bromide) ([C.sub.12][C.sub.6][C.sub.12][Br.sub.12]) is analyzed. Another assembly pathway is induced to give the amorphous aggregates and the size and surface roughness of the A[beta](1-40) aggregates have varied upon increasing [C.sub.12][C.sub.6][C.sub.12][Br.sub.2] concentration.
