The medium effect on the thermodynamics of complexation of 5,11,17,23-tetrakis-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-25,27-bis(methylthioethoxy)-26,28- bis[(diethylamine)ethoxy]calix(4)arene and the silver cation
Article Abstract:
The interaction of 5,11,17,23-tetrakis-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-25,27-bis(methyl- thioethoxy)-26,28-bis[(diethylamine)-ethoxy]calix(4)arene and the silver cation was investigated by H NMR in CD3OD and CD3CN at 298 Kelvin. The results suggest that the hydrophilic cavity of the ligand hosts the metal cation through interaction with the donor atoms, oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur. Conductometric titrations of Ag+ and this ligand in methanol and in ethanol indicate the stoichiometry of the metal ion-ligand compex is 1:1.

Thermodynamics of complexation of a lower rim calix(4) arene ketone derivative and the sodium cation in N, N-dimethylformamide/acetonitrile mixtures
Article Abstract:
The research done on the thermodynamics of cation complexation process involves calixerene derivatives in mixed solvents. The calix(4)arene derivative, leads the ligand to interact through its hydrophilic cavity with the metal cation while interactions with the solvent molecules take place in the hydrophobic activity.

Selective recognition of halide anions by calix[4] pyrrole: a detailed thermodynamic study
Article Abstract:
The thermodynamics of anion complexation of calix[4] pyrrole and halide anions (fluoride, chloride and bromide) in acetonitrile and N, N- dimethylformamide at 298.15 K are discussed. The results show that calix[4]pyrrole is able to recognize selectively the halide anions in these solvents.
