The nonlinear optical properties of the crystal (S)-3-methyl-5-nitro-N-(1-phenylethyl)-2-pyridinamine
Article Abstract:
The organic crystal (S)-3-methyl-5-nitro-N-(1-phenylethyl)-2-pyridinamine that were previously identified by the powder technique as a promising nonlinear optical material, the large single crystals (3 * 3 * 2 cm(super 3)) of which is grown by temperature lowering of a seeded supersaturated solution in acetone is reported. Refined refractive indices are obtained from the predicted angles of incidence of the phase-matched second harmonic signals.

Morphology of crystals of alpha-lactose hydrate grown from aqueous solution
Article Abstract:
The influence of beta-lactose on the growth process and the degree of its incorporation into the growing crystal is reported. Results reveal that the tomahawk shape of alpha-lactose monohydrate arises from the growth inhibition of the {011} faces of the growing crystal due to the incorporation of beta-lactose at this face.

Macro- and Micromorphology of monoclinic paracetamol grown from pure aqueous solution
Article Abstract:
The morphology of monoclinic paracetamol crystals is investigated using a computer modeling approach based on crystal structure and intermolecular force fields. The results of the study show that the growth mechanism can play a dominant part in the definition of the morphology of crystals.
