The origin of surface stress induced by adsorption of iodine on gold
Article Abstract:
The cantilever technique for the measurement of film stress on both macroscopic and microscopic cantilevers was validated and applied to the experimental determination of film stress induced by the adsorption of a monolayer of iodine onto a gold substrate. The macroscopic observable quantity was found directly related to the change in interatom potential upon chemisorption to gold which provide insight into the mechanisms that give rise to the manifestation of film stress in a thin film or coating.

Unequal-sphere packing model for simulation of the uniaxially compressed iodine adlayer on Au(111)
Article Abstract:
A simple unequal-sphere packing model, based on pure geometrical principles, was applied to study the centered-rectangular iodine adlayer on the Au(111) surface. The qualitative and quantitative comparison revealed that the iodine adatoms in the two arrangements differ significantly in atomic registry, distance from the substrate and the adlayer configuration.

Activity of platinum-gold alloys for glucose electrooxidation in biofuel cells
Article Abstract:
The preparation of carbon supported Pt-Au catalysts with different bimetallic composition by water in oil (w/o) microemulsion which could be used as anodes for glucose oxidation is presented. The obtained Au-Pt catalysts display electrocatalytic activity with respect to glucose oxidation as evidenced by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry.
