The structure of alanine based tripeptides in water and dimethyl sulfoxide probed by vibrational spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
The use of vibrational spectroscopy to determine the structure of tripeptides in solution is demonstrated and it is showed that alanine based tripeptides adopt stable extended structures assignable to the upper left square of the Ramachandran plot. Hydrogen bonding between the peptide and water molecules contributes to the inhomogeneous broadening of amide I bands and stabilizes the polyproline II conformation.

Electronic and vibronic contributions to the band splitting in optical spectra of heme proteins
Article Abstract:
Different combinations of electronic and vibronic perturbations are investigated to show evidence that both contribute equally to the observed Q-band split. It was found that vibronic perturbations give rise to different Q-and B-band splitting, in agreement with what was experimentally observed for asymmetrically distorted hemes and porphyrins.

Electronic absorption and resonance Raman signatures of hyperporphyrins and nonplanar porphyrins
Article Abstract:
A survey is conducted of tetraphenylporphyrin derivatives in relation to their possible hyperporphyrin character. A chronological summary of the nonplanar deformations being responsible for the red shifted electronic spectra of nonplanar porphyrins is presented.
