Thermal properties and mixing state of ethylene glycol-water binary solutions by calorimetry, large-angle X-ray scattering, and small-angle neutron scattering
Article Abstract:
A relation between thermal properties of ethylene glycol (EG)-water binary solutions and their mixing states clarified by the layer-angle X-ray scattering (LAXS) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements is discussed at the molecular level. It is observed that the radical distribution function (RDF) for pure EG obtained from the LAXS measurements has suggested that a gauche conformation of an EG molecule is favourable in the liquid.

Neutron scattering study on dynamics of water molecules in MCM-41. 2. Determination of transational diffusion coefficient
Article Abstract:
Quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) spectra of water-filled MCM-41 samples are measured over the temperature range 238-298 K and the momentum transfer range 0.31-0.99 A(sup -1) to investigate the dynamics of confined water molecules. Using the Lorentzian and the stretched exponential functions, the spectra, which consist mainly of contributions from the transational diffusion of water molecules, are analyzed.

Characterization of the state of two-dimensionally condensed water on hydroxylated chromium(III) oxide surface through FT-IR, quasielastic neutron scattering, and dielectric relaxation measurements
Article Abstract:
Research findings show that two-dimensionally condensed water assume hydrogen-bonded solid state and resemble the structure of hydroxylated chromium(III) oxide at the system's critical temperature. Data further show morphologically the two-dimensionally condensed water are small clusters of water on the chromium(III) oxide surface.
