Thermal stability of ocatadecylsilane monolayers on silica: Curvature and free volume effects

Article Abstract:

Vibrational spectroscopy and calorimetry are used to examine the thermal stability and dynamic behavior at elevated temperature of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on fumed silicas, Aerosil 380 (A380) and Aerosil OX50 (OX50), and nonporous silica beads of 106 nm sizes. A well-ordered SAMs formed by OTS adsorption on superhydrated silica depicted increased thermal disordering of the alkyl chains with increasing surface curvature and increased free volume.

Transport of pure components in pervaporation through a microporous silica membrane

Article Abstract:

The pervaporation mechanism of pure components through a commercial microporous silica membrane was studied by performing experiments using water, methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol in the 40-80 degree Celsius temperature range. It can be stated that the transport mechanism follows the absorption-diffusion model comprising of configurational diffusion and surface diffusion.

A novel route toward the synthesis of high-quality large-pore periodic mesoporous organosilicas

Article Abstract:

A novel route to the synthesis of high-quality, large-pore periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs) using triblock copolymer P123 as a template is reported. The comparison and the interpretation of the role of the acid in the synthesis of high-quality PMOs and periodic mesoporous silicas (PMSs) are critically examined.
