Thermodynamic properties of diblock copolymers of ethylene oxide and styrene oxide in aqueous solution
Article Abstract:
Apparent molal volumes and adiabatic compressibilities of aqueous solutions of block copolymers E45S10, S15E63, and S20E67 (E-oxyethylene, S-oxyphenylethylene, and the subscripts denote block lengths) are analyzed by density and ultrasound velocity measurements. The results revealed that the low enthalpy values obtained are attributed to the hydrophobicity of the S block being tightly coiled in the molecular state in water.

Behavior of a styrene oxide-ethylene oxide diblock copolymer/surfactant system: A thermodynamic and spectroscopy study
Article Abstract:
Co-micellization of the diblock copolymer oxyphenylethylene/oxyethylene with the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate was investigated in aqueous solution using light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry, and density measurements. It is concluded that the presence of a surfactant can be useful to control the size and properties of block copolymer aggregates in solutions.
