640MB MO drive spins at 4,500rpm
Article Abstract:
Konica Corp.'s OMD-9060 3.5-inch 640MB magneto-optical (MO) disc drive is capable of producing a disc-rotation speed of 4,500rpm. The device, initially priced at 100,000 yen ($787), is capable of a maximum data transmission speed of 4.5MB per second, making fast reading and overwriting possible with the use of a 2MB standard-cache memory. The OMD-9060, which also features a full-digital servo that limits energy consumption to 5.4W, is compatible with all of Konica's previous disc drive models.
