A captive audience
Article Abstract:
The Web has empowered employees like never before, allowing job searches to be just keystrokes away. Because of this, companies have to learn effective online publishing to involve their employees more, give them more information and provide a sense of belonging to the organization. Intranets are now being used to distribute content to employees. For corporations seeking to get into online publishing, the four basic building blocks of publishing have to be learned. These building blocks are content creation, manufacturing/distribution, circulation and advertising sales. The Net Future will involve providing employees access to all information. Intranets are not only required to constantly update content but also to make sure that their content is relevant to employees. Constant employee feedback should be encouraged and mechanisms to allow employees to create content themselves should be established.

Culture club
Article Abstract:
An online community, like a corporation, develops its own unique culture that evolves from the thoughts and beliefs of its members. Its power comes from the sense of belonging members feel by joining a special group. Corporations can learn some lessons from online communities which provide the up-to-the-moment virtual pulse of the members. An online community can help corporations establish enduring bonds with their customers, which can, in turn, provide input in product development, manufacturing and customer satisfaction. Corporations can also use their online communities to do market research and for training geographically-dispersed employees. Anyone can join or create electronic communities. The biggest competitive advantage for companies is that by setting up an online community, workers can collaborate with customers.
