Contactless ID system works at 250mm

Omron Corp. offers the V700 series of contact-free identification (ID) systems that work at 250mm, which is about five times the distance that conventional products cover. The contactless ID systems also target non-manufacturing areas. The H02 wide-area antenna is available for 168,000 yen ($1,263), the H01 standard antenna for 98,000 yen ($737), and the CD1D controller for 108,000 yen ($812). The ID tags and controllers make use of Omron's newly created logic. The DP13P21 ID carries a price tag of 220 yen ($1.65) per 100,000 units or 560 yen ($4.21) per 1,000 units.

Biodegrader, showcase take two paths to cleaner world

SANYO Electric Co. Ltd. of Japan is introducing two new products that are intended to contribute to a cleaner environment. The firm is now offering its newest large-scale biodegrading garbage processor in 30kg, 50kg and a100kg capacities. The units, which were developed following five years of research and development, is capable of reducing garbage to 10% to 20% of its original weight. SANYO, in cooperation with Tokyo Electric Power Co. Ltd. (TEPCO), has also developed a refrigerated showcase that is capable of saving as much as 4,000 yen annually in power cost.

Toshiba's latest DynaBooks mix ruggedness with compactness

Toshiba Corp. is launching the DynaBookSS Portege 3010 notebook computer. The B5 PC is one of the slimmest and lightest models on the market at 19.8mm and 1.19kg. The product features 4.3GB hard disk drive capacity, a Super VGA 10.4-inc computer screen, a 266MHz Pentium MMX CPU and a 64MB rapid DRAM with an option to expand to 96MB. The DynaBookSS Portege 3010 is also capable of portable communications through the 56Kbps PC Card modem.
