DOD Adopts New Policy to Ensure that its OA Systems are Efficiently Managed
Article Abstract:
The Department of Defense has established policies to assure the acquisition and utilization of productive management support and operating systems. Management is called on to devise strategies that promote economical, standardized, compatible hardware and software. Documented planning, requirements definition and pilot testing programs are among the policy features. Managerial education programs on technology, support facilities for making assessments and projections and giving assistance, plus user groups will be established.

Navy Is Enhancing Its OA System Via Extensive Communications Network
Article Abstract:
Management decisions require quality data and ready availability. DONACS (Department of the Navy Office of Automation and Communications Systems) is part of a project to integrate present systems with future designs in the secretary of the Navy's and other headquarters offices. A standard Document Interchange Format (DIF), will allow a network system and provide a flow of data. The project is expected to increase productivity by twenty percent.

Successful Pilot Brings OA to Senate
Article Abstract:
A pilot program for OA systems was completed in the offices of the U.S. Senate. A Senate Committee authorized Honeywell, Inc., Data General Corp., and Prime Computer to install automated equipment based on test results. These companies were rated in the top three of the twenty-four companies competing for contracts.
