Digital Introduces Desktop Mini to Compete in Office Market
Article Abstract:
In order to offset declining profits, Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) is shifting its direction back to minicomputers where the company has been traditionally successful. A new desktop minicomputer, the Microvax II, was introduced in May 1985 by DEC for the office market, and recently the high-end system VAX 8600 was introduced. The Microvax II, capable of running hundreds of programs available for larger VAX machines, puts DEC in the unique position of offering an integrated environment for personal computers and work stations, departmental systems, and large high-performance systems designed with the VAX architecture.
