Eurocom 7200
Article Abstract:
Eurocom's $4,350 Eurocom 7200 is a powerful high-end notebook computer that offers an array of features and options. The Eurocom 7200, which operates on a 200MHz Pentium processor with MMX enhancement, also contains an impressive 13.1-inch XGA active matrix display screen. Images, colors and type are presented attractively on the screen's 1024x768 resolution. Logical arrangement of a sturdy and comfortable keyboard makes it easy for typing, although the touchpad placement near the keyboard may result in errant commands during early use. Numerous ports, including one dual Universal Serial Bus port and one MIDI/game port, will enable the 7200 to support other 1998 market products. Hard drive capacity could reach 6GB, thanks to a second internal hard drive that resides in the storage bay. The 7.7-pound 7200 is nonetheless lighter than some other rivals, and it lends itself to lap use.

Toshiba Satellite 220CDS: sending clear signals
Article Abstract:
Toshiba America Information Systems' $2,000 Satellite 220CDS Pentium-based notebook provides a solid balance of computing performance and technological advancements for a comparatively affordable price. The 220CDS includes a 1.34GB hard drive, 16MB of EDO RAM, dual stereo speakers, a 10x CD-ROM drive, a 133MHz Pentium CPU and 256KB of Level 2 cache. The 220CDS' 12.1-in dual scan display provides resolution rates of 800 x 600 dpi, but the screen lacks the visual richness and clarity of an active matrix display. The keyboard offers a superior ergonomic design with a large wrist-rest, responsive keys and an effective AccuPoint pointing device. The 220CDS also includes serial, parallel, PS/2, infrared and USB ports, and the lithium-ion battery offers more than two hours of use.
