Facing up to Reality: Dilemma of the Dislocated Office Worker
Article Abstract:
Modern technology can perform many of the functions of todays' office worker. Unlike other technological impacts, job displacement is occuring during a period of near stable economic growth. Many industries do not replace workers who are terminated. Companies that experience growth find additional work can be handled without additional staff. A chart shows occupational categories with above and below average growth projections. The service industry is expected to provide about seventy-five percent of all new jobs over the next ten years. Income distribution and training are solutions considered in solving the dilemma of technology-induced unemployment.
