Measurement Comes of Age
Article Abstract:
Measurement as a tool for justifying word processing or office automation expenditures, contributes to the development of standards, equitable work-load distributions, improvements in technology, and other benefits. In the 1960s vendors misused measurement to generate secretarial career dissatisfaction and to encourage product sales. Office systems analysts use measurement today in distributed automated office for equipment justification, determination of applications programs available to users, to justify costs of software and hardware, and more.

Reintegrating Word Processing
Article Abstract:
The trend toward integrated office automation has impacted traditional word processing centers by distributing mailing, messaging, filing, spreadsheet, and documentation functions over many workstations throughout the organization. The automated office faces the challenge of reintegrating word processing personnel while retaining the operational values of the department. As workflow concepts are reevaluated, administrative responsibilities for documentation, measurement, and control must be redefined.

Evaluating OA Equipment
Article Abstract:
Vendor presentations should be made after the Office Automation Team has performed a feasibility study. Vendors which seem to best meet the company's needs should be individually rated in all features. The feature categories should be weighted, as well as each specific feature. The vendor receiving the highest total score is the one most apt to meet the company's requirements. A sample evaluation chart is included.
