Motorola Introduces 32-Bit Superchip -New 68020 Will Bring Mainframe Computing Power to Desktop Computers
Article Abstract:
Motorola corporation has introduced a new thirty-two bit microprocessor chip named the Motorola 68020. The new product is expected to give the power of a mainframe computer to a desktop model. The 68020 differs from other thirty-two bit microprocessor chips in that it also has a thirty-two bit bus as apposed to others that only have eight or sixteen bus. The amount of information that can be stored in the computer's memory is dependent on the bus. The 68020 has a Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) which sets it apart from others and allows it to use much less power than traditional microprocessors. Other features special to the 68020 are: on-chip construction cache, dynamic bus sizing, and a coprocessor interface. A photograph Motorola's 68020 is included.

End-User Computing Rising
Article Abstract:
It is estimated that end-user computing will increase to eighty percent of corporate computing by 1990, according to a survey by INPUT (Mountain View, California). INPUT says end-users want an interactive environment on their micros and two-way data transmission to host mainframes. It is recommended that information systems managers develop a strategy that accommodates end-user computing into the corporate computing strategy.
