Newsfront: ITT Proposes Building Earth Station in New York
Article Abstract:
ITT World Communications has requested approval from the Federal Communications Commission to erect an eight meter satellite earth station at 67 Broad Street, Manhattan. Worldcom, which provides national and international data and record communication for businesses in the United States and 200 other countries, wants the satellite in order to improve service and lower costs. Data would be transmitted at speeds of fifty-six kilobytes and 1.544 megabytes over very high bandwidth.

Newsfront: AT&T Acts to Ensure UNIX Compatibility
Article Abstract:
Serious efforts are under way at AT&T to make its UNIX operating system the predominant industry standard. Two concerns are involved here: the first is to enhance the quality and quantity of software written for the system; the second is to encourage and support the use of the UNIX in a wider variety of computer hardware configurations.
