Newsfront: Computer Compatibility Is Near
Article Abstract:
In an effort to rectify the problem of incompatibility between different computer vendors' equipment and to promote trade, the Secretary of Commerce, the head of the National Bureau of Standards, and various industry leaders signed a formal agreement on international network standards. Fourteen companies are demonstrating these standards on their equipment at the National Computer Conference in Las Vegas July ninth to twelfth. The International Organization for Standardization is overseeing the development of standards.

Newsfront: Wang Teams with InteCom To Enhance PBX, Voice Capabilities
Article Abstract:
In its strategy to interface its computer systems with other vendors' equipment, Wang Laboratories Inc. has made an agreement with InteCom Inc., manufacturer of switching systems and voice and data communications. Wang is purchasing five million shares of InteCom stock. In return, Wang will use InteCom's Integrated Business Exchange (IBX), to exchange information from its systems. An interface between the IBX and Wang systems is to be developed.
