Data projector manufacturers are finding a new market for their products, namely, the retail industry. Shop owners find that store windows can be utilized as a picture screen or billboard through the use of projectors with their advanced brightness and improved resolution. Other uses for data projectors are in education and training. The drive to identify potential markets is in line with the aim of achieving a 20% growth which cannot be realized unless new uses arise.

Japan-made LC projectors that were introduced in sping 1998, such as those offered by Victor Company of Japan and Pioneer Electronic Corp, feature new projector technologies and techniques. Other new projectors accommodate Digital Micromirror Devices and Digital Light Processing technologies from Texas Instruments Inc. Other improvements include the developments of Ultra High Power lamps and high-temperature polysilicon TFT LC panels.
