Printed Circuit Connector Manufacturers Target Exploding Demand for DIN Connectors
Article Abstract:
The DIN 41612 is a two-piece post and box device that connects printed circuit boards, or a board to a backplane or cable. It was designed in Germany in 1972 for use in the telephone system. Its present market acceptability is debatable. In 1983, the DIN had less than two percent of the circuit-board connector market. There is an inverse DIN which exchanges the male and female receptor, as well as other modifications, which had a market of twelve million in 1983. The total DIN market is twenty-eight million, with over twenty manufacturers. Some feel its maximum ninety-six contacts is not enough. DIN sales will grow sixty percent through 1988. A graph describing the DIN market share is shown.

Favorable Growth Shown in Desk-Top Calculators
Article Abstract:
Japanese calculator manufacturers indicate an increase in the production and shipment of electronic desk calculators for 1983. The period January through August reports the production of 42,198,098 units, or an eleven per cent increase over the 1982 period. This growth is attributed to the demand for desk top calculators. These calculators are slim, small, and inexpensive. They offer features such as game calculators, translation units, pocket computers, and voice-synthesis units. There has been considerable competition between manufacturers over pricing and market share. Sharp, Canon, and Casio are leading in manufacturing. Charts illustrate the production and shipment of calculators.
