Companies considering purchase of office automation systems need to be aware that vendors can modify systems to meet individual company requirements. Factors to consider in analyzing requirements are management style, company size, customer base, geographical boundaries, and current equipment investments. When immediate office automation modifications are needed, it is important that the modification is available in an existing version of the product.

High technology has a way of creating a certian enthusiasm among office personnel. This enthusiasm, in turn, may persuade people to introduce automation prematurely or unnecessarily. A poorly considered decision to automate a given office procedure can occasionally render that procedure less efficient, less cost-effective, and even slower than it was prior to automation.
