Selling Computer Solutions in Home, Business, and Educational Markets
Article Abstract:
The Computer Shoppe, a Nashville, Tennessee-based computer retailer, began operations in 1981. It now boasts eight stores in three states and twenty million dollars in annual revenues. A catalyst for The Computer Shoppe's growth was its acquisition by Service Merchandise in April 1983. Within one year of that acquisition, it more than doubled sales. A typical Computer Shoppe outlet includes 4,500 sq. ft. of showroom, storage, training, and office space. It employs both in-store and a direct sales staff. The company emphasizes training of both its staff and customers in the use of the latest computer equipment. Photographs of the company logo and a sample floor display are included.

Those trends are expected to continue in 1985, fueled in part by the advent of stereo television, television as monitor, digital television, compact 'camcorders' and other video cameras, and up-scale VCRs.
