The Government Office: Reducing Computer Crime
Article Abstract:
Sanford Sherizen, criminologist and computer security consultant, claims that if computer crimes are to be prevented top management must assume responsibility for security. The number of computer crimes is highest in banking and second highest in government agencies. Most crimes go undetected. Sherizen advises employing a full-time director in charge of security. In developing security measures, assessments should first be made of the system's vulnerability, the organizational attitude, and the resources available for tackling the problem.

The Government Office: Work Conditions, Not VDTs, Harmful
Article Abstract:
A study by the University of Wisconsin determined that VDT users do not suffer more depression or job dissatisfaction than non-users. Complaints about working conditions and health problems correlated somewhat with the lower level jobs. Data entry personnel registered more complaints than other VDT users. Married and older workers registered fewer complaints. Legislation setting standards for computer equipment, furniture and support systems and providing free eye exams has been introduced in several states.
