The Government Office: Study Examines OA's Impact
Article Abstract:
Under the direction of Congressional House and Senate committees, the Office of Technology Assessment has begun a study on the trends, utilization, and the social and economic impact of office automation (OA) technology. Congress is concerned about such issues as displacement of workers, especially federal employees; security and privacy; training and education; standards and systems compatibility; and changes in local and international communication. Congress is faced with making policy concerning OA, as well as confronting the changes that OA has made on existing policy.

ASC Automates Records System
Article Abstract:
The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) plans to institute a prototype automated records system to improve productivity and significantly reduce costs in the administration of commodity and land use programs. A decision on whether to make the system a national one depends on the outcome of the prototype, availability of cost information, and development of appropriate software. ASCS records are now kept manually and sent to a Kansas City office for entry into national databases.
