The Government Office: IRS Will Implement Paperless System to Save Billions on Tax Procedures
Article Abstract:
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) plans to automate the process of filing a tax return in an effort to render the procedure as paperless as possible. Through the extensive use of everything from home computers to public terminals-electronic mail, electronic filing, electronic funds transfer, and optical character readers-the IRS expects, to save billions of dollars. Beginning in the mid-1980's, the entire project will not be completed until after the turn of the century.

In an effort to increase productivity and efficiency, the Department of Defense (DOD) plans to supply managerial personnel with microcomputers. This follows from a philosophy according to which the greatest gains will come as result of autonomous individuals becoming familiar with the new technology on their own and with their own machines.
