'Youthful Approach' Yields Profits for High-End Auto Sound Specialist
Article Abstract:
Headquarters Sound Express, a New Jersey-based autosound retailer, is run by Larry Margolis, an eighteen-year-old Syracuse University student who flies home every other weekend to keep an eye on the business. Opened in February 1984, the company expects to gross $1.5 million in sales for its first year. It caters to the mid and high-end customers. An average system costs between $600 and $700. Car stereo sales account for forty percent of total revenues, cellular phones another forty percent, and the remaining twenty percent from car dealer work. The company has plans to expand into audio-video systems and compact disc players, concetrating on up-scale clients. Photographs of Margolis and his Morristown, NJ store showroom are included.
