AFE files Ch. 11, adds to sweeps problems
Article Abstract:
American Family Enterprises (AFE) filed for bankruptcy protection, in a move that aims to help it restructure its operations and resolve several class-action lawsuits on deceptive advertising. The company, which co- owned by TAF Holding Inc and Time Inc as well as a group of investors, also hopes to diversify beyond sweepstakes. AFE has already agreed to settle with complainants in lawsuits in 40 states and the District of Columbia, but did not admit any wrongdoing.
