Lamont must heed calls to assist construction
Article Abstract:
The construction industry should press its case for government assistance following the success of the Conservative party in the 1992 general election. Many politicians are more aware than usual of the problems faced by the industry and the effect on the nation's economy of a depressed housing market. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Norman Lamont should be encouraged to reduce taxes and should extend the moratorium on stamp duty on house sales beyond the August 1992 deadline.

Give us a Budget that will end the recession
Article Abstract:
The UK Chancellor Norman Lamont's Budget on Mar 16, 1993 should aim to end the recession and stimulate the construction industry. An increase in taxes could stiffle economic recovery. The UK needs more industrial investment and new businesses need to be encouraged. Interest rates should be reduced to 4% and value-added tax to 15%. The property market needs new transactions which could be stimulated through new tax incentives.
