Aylward Schhol, Enfield
Article Abstract:
Work to consolidate the existing buildings of Aylward School in the London Borough of Enfield, UK commenced in Apr 1989 and was completed in Sep 1992 for a projected sum of 9.5 million pounds sterling. Cost per metre squared was over 724 pounds sterling. The school had to remain open throughout the conversion which increased the contract price. The existing late Victorian 3-storey building, Huxley was restored and remodelled. A new building was built to link Huxley to the Aylward building. A new fully insulated pitch roof was built for Aylward and double glazing installed.

Magistrates' Courts, Milton Keynes
Article Abstract:
Buckinghamshire county architects have designed a magistrates court building which combines approachability with an imposing style. The building in Milton Keynes, England is entered from a colonade and has a two storey high entrance hall. There is a heirarchy of offices, courts and private rooms reached by a clear route. Natural light has been used to make the court rooms relaxed while giving a sense of their importance. The building was expensive at a cost of 1122,57 pounds sterling per square metre with substructure and external walls the most costly elements.

Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen
Article Abstract:
The Royal Cornhill Hospital at Aberdeen, Scotland was completed in Mar 1991 at a cost of 483 pounds sterling per metre squared. The project which was commenced in Nov 1988 was divided into 3 phases for financial reasons. The hospital provides residential and day care for the mentally ill. Design emphasis was focused on a friendly, domestic environment. The site is near the centre of Aberdeen and is built amongst parkland. It is no more than 2 storeys high. Cost were kept low by using blockwork for the external walls.
