Big 3 marine stores offer online shopping

Three of the biggest marine accessories chains in the US will be fully online in year 2000. BOAT/U.S. is scheduled to open its online store at www.boatus.com in May, which will include all of the estimated 28,000 items the company sells. In the case of Boaters World Marine Centers, the company will start taking orders on its Web site in late May and expects to offer the full line of products by December. West Marine Inc, on the other hand, has been offering its products online earlier than the two companies.

Trade associations to share resources

The Marine Retailers Assn of America (MRAA) is partnering with the American Boat Builders and Repairers Assn (ABBRA) and the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) to offer complementary programs to their respective members. Because of limited resources, the MRAA and the ABBRA are extending their reciprocal programs, while the MRAA and the ABYC have agreed to a 'memorandum of understanding' that will provide ABYC courses to MRAA members at discounted rates.
