24/7 Mail to push e-mail campaign into heavily regulated EU

24/7 Mail has announced its plan to introduce an electronic mail marketing service in Europe in late Jan 2000. The company said that it will start the service in the UK and will later move to more difficult countries. 24/7 Mail will compile a list of DMA compliant countries in Europe and will move into the markets that offers the least resistance. The company will also tap into the Web sites that are part of the 24/7 Europe network to get more namses willing to receive e-mail advertising.

Bertelsmann bolsters e-mail effort

Bertelsmann is launching a global marketing offensive for its book clubs. The company is betting on expansion of its specialty clubs, stronger use of the Internet and e-mail marketing, and a uniform platform. It is using its acquisition of e-mail marketer Zooba.com for its marketing drive. Zooba provides the book clubs the most modern form of e-mail marketing to build their communities, personalized e-mails with editorial content, entertainment, information and product offers.

Big Flower buys fifth UK company in foreign expansion drive

Big Flower Holdings has acquired has acquired direct mail advertising firm Colorgraphics of Leicester, UK, is the fourth company it acquired in the country in 1998. The purchase was made through Big Flower's direct marketing subsidiary Webcraft. Big Flower now owns five firms in the UK, which contributes $130 million to the company's total revenues of $1.7 billion. The company acquired premedia companies Production Response and Lifeboat Matey in Mar 1998, and Admagic in Nov 1998, while Olwen Direct Mail was bought in 1997.
