Bill-presentment companies see stocks soar

Bill presentment companies CheckFree Holdings and Group 1 Software saw their share prices rise significantly on Feb 2000. CheckFree's share price rose by more than 50% after it announced that it will acquire rival TransPoint for $1 billion. The announcement cause its stock price to rise to $105 but settled down to $88 on Feb 29, 2000. On the other hand, Group 1 Software jumped by more than 82%, to close at $30.50 on Feb 29, 2000 after announcing that it would implement a 3-for-2 stock split. It makes a software that allows the creation of customized marketing messages.

West Teleservices, Synchrony partner

Omaha, NE-based telemarketing services provider West Teleservices has formed a strategic alliance with Cincinnati, OH-based technology solutions provider Synchrony Communications. The deal calls for West to offer Synchrony's customer support solutions to electronic commerce businesses. As part of the deal, West will also become a minority shareholder in Synchrony. West operates 27 outsourced call centers across North America. Synchrony provides contact-center technology to integrate customer interactions across multiple communications channels.

Companies offer free PCs with internet access
Article Abstract:
Gobi Inc. of New York and DirectWeb of Mount Laurel, NJ, are offering free personal computers to customers who agree to subscribe to their respective Internet access services. Gobi is giving free computers to customers who avail of Internet access that cost $25.99 per month for 36 months, while DirectWeb is offering free computers to first 25,000 customers who will buy Internet service at a cost that range between $19.95 per month to $49.95 per month. Both companies are using third-party manufacturer for the PCs they offer.
