Breaking up the concrete jungle
Article Abstract:
Some observers are concerned the proposed renovation of Birmingham city centre, England, will lead to less open space and more enclosed shopping malls. The 1 billion pounds sterling project has been welcomed by local construction firms who hope to find new employment. Further construction work, valued at 2 billion pounds sterling, is planned for the West Midlands region. City planners have been closely involved in the regeneration project and have tried to ensure the dual-carriage ring road is altered to allow easier access to the centre.
